Frequently Asked Questions

All You Need to Know

  • What days are you open?

Our office is open Monday through Friday. As our daily schedule is subject to change, please call to confirm office hours.

  • Are you accepting new patients?

    Yes, we welcome new patients.

  • Do you accept my health insurance plan?

Advocare participates with most major insurance plans. As participation varies by region, specialty, and physician, we recommend that you contact either our office or your insurance company representative to verify that your insurance plan is accepted.

  • How do we contact the doctor after hours?

Our providers are available 24 hours a day. Call the office at (856) 227-4606 and follow the instructions to page a provider on call. Please be aware that after-hours calls are intended for urgent medical issues that cannot wait until the next business day. Referral and appointment requests will not be addressed via pager. Pages are typically returned within one hour. Please call back if you have not received a timely response.

IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • How often do I need to be seen in the office?

Our routine health maintenance visit schedule follows standard guidelines based on your age, sex and underlying medical conditions. Our staff will discuss with you when your next visit is recommended.

  • What immunizations will I receive?

To help protect you from many serious infectious diseases, we follow national immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the CDC . Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with Dr. Treiman.

  • I need to see a specialist. What do I do?

For non-urgent referrals: when one of our doctors refers you to a specialist, please schedule your appointment with the specialist, then call our office approximately three to five business days before your appointment. Because we often need to obtain additional information to do your referral, we require three (3) business days to complete routine referrals. Most referrals are completed electronically and submitted directly to the specialist's office. Please check with our office staff to determine if your insurance plan processes referrals electronically.
For urgent referrals: when one of our doctors determines that you need an urgent referral, your referral will be initiated immediately. Please remain in our office while your referral is processed, then proceed to your specialist.

  • When will I receive lab or test results?

We recommend you always contact the ordering provider 5 business days after any lab or test. You will receive a call quickly with any lab results that require urgent attention. Other abnormal lab results will be addressed promptly by the provider that ordered the labs or tests.

  • Can a family physician serve as a primary care provider for children and adults?

Yes, family physicians are trained to manage common problems ranging from birth to old age. Certain practices may focus on special lifecycle stages. Our practice provides care for adults 18 and older.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

The best way to obtain a prescription refill is at your office visit for the condition that the prescription is for. You can also call your pharmacy and have them contact us, or call our office directly to request your refill. To ensure you are getting the correct medication, when you call for a refill please be sure you have the correct exact name, dose strength, quantity of medication and how you take it. Allow one business day for all routine prescription refills. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least three to five days for refill approval.

  • What is the difference between a family doctor and an internist?

Family doctors are trained to provide for the entire family, from infant to geriatric care. Internists see only patients age 18 and older and have additional training in managing complex adult diseases. Some internists may treat patients as young as age 12. We recommend that you check with the office to determine their practice range.
